A game of midnight golf seems an unlikely prospect to many enthusiasts, and few golfers have experienced this delight. But now you have the novel opportunity to participate in an event which features round the clock golf in mid-summer at hight latitudes.

The Akureyri Golf Club hosts this tournament which is known as The Arctic Open Golf Championship. An international event which attracts golfers from various parts of the world. The highest number of international players so far is 120. The Akureyri Golf Club is the most northerly 18 hole golf course situated 65 49' north of the Equator. Measuring more than 6,400 yards, this unique course is in a natural setting and provides lovely views of the surrounding countryside.

The Arctic Open is a 36 hole tournament, played under the Stableford point system over 2 days (nights), 18 holes each day. The former day groups are chosen randomly but the second day by score. This championship is open to professionall and amateur golfers alike. Prizes are given for the champion, best scratch score, best ladies score, best seniors score (age 55+). A team tournament is run along the game. Participants will randomly be drawn into groups of four, with prizes given for the total three lowest scores of each group.

The town of Akureyri, in the fjord of Eyjafjordur, is easy to reach. Airlines operate scheduled flights to Akureyri from Reykjavik daily. To drive from Reykjavik would take 4-5 hours, or 3-5 hours drive from Seydisfjordur where the ferry from the mainland of Europe stops.
