If you would like to mix business with pleasure or
get away from the office for a meaningful meeting or workshop, the Hans
Merensky Country Club and Lodge offers full conference facilities which
can be tailor-made to individual requirements. Air-conditioned and secluded
accommodation is offered in the form of tastefully decorated thatched
chalets situated along the golf course. Awake to the sounds of birds
and watch as a herd of impala or warthog grazes along lazily at your
doorstep. Each chalet is a short walk from the clubhouse and is uniquely
situated to offer superb views of the golf course. In addition to a
wide variety of activities there are many appealing attractions just
a short drive away. In short the Hans Merensky Country Club and Lodge
is your gateway to a fun filled relaxing and sporting getaway.
They call Cape Town the Fairest Cape of all - a city
with a vivid historical past and rousing natural splendour. Perhaps
the most magnificent sight of all, is the panorama of Table Mountain
as it cradles the city and dips its toes in the Atlantic Ocean.
The Commodore offers stylish accommodation, state-of-the-art
conference facilities, attention to detail and service excellence in
a peaceful and secure environment.
Hans Merensky Golf Course
This is another fine course which first evolved from
the drawing board of Robert Grimsdell. A major attraction of the Hans
Merensky course is the visiting wildlife - the course is bordered by
the Kruger National Park near the Phalaborwa Gate and many of the Park's
inhabitants pay scant regard to fencing. Particularly during the drier,
winter months, elephants, several species of antelope, giraffe, warthogs
and even the big cats can be spotted.
An unusual benefit to the enjoyment of a round - The
land on which the course is built once formed part of the Park and magnificent
bushveld trees line the fairways and form backdrops to the holes, giving
the impression that the course is far older than its 30 years. From
the moment one enters the club grounds, one realises that this is a
uniquely African experience - monkeys leap above the enormous trees
near the clubhouse, which is said to have the biggest thatched roof
in the country.
The course is truly a revelation. It has hosted many
high-profile professional and amateur tournaments, a measure of its
widely acknowledged quality. There is not a single weak hole, but from
the forward trees, the novice is sure to thoroughly enjoy the round.
It is difficult to single out specific holes on so fine a layout, but
the four par fives are all excellent, particularly the 16 th, were a
pulled or hooked drive could well land in the Park. The par three 8th
and 17th holes, both over water to well-bunkered greens, are also exceptional.
Atlantic Beach Golf Course
The Atlantic Beach Golf Club is a fairly new golf
development that has been given a five star rating in terms of value
for money, facilities, condition of the courses and over-all golfing
experience. What more could you expect from a multi-million rand club
house with a scenic setting that boasts a spectacular view towards a
few of Cape Town’s famous landmarks - Table Bay, Robben Island,
Cape Town and Table Mountain? Having already hosted corporate golf days
and functions in Cape Town, it is only a matter of time before a major
tournament is held at the Atlantic Beach Golf Club.
Although the fairways at Atlantic Beach Golf Course
have been widened somewhat, this course is pretty tough. Just off the
fairways you’ll find thick fynbos (bush) and shrubbery. After
you have lost a couple of balls in the fynbos you might want to put
your driver away or break it.
Stellenbosch Golf Course
Stellenbosch lies in the centre of the fertile and
very scenic winegrowing area of the Cape, less than an hour's drive
out of Cape Town. With its numerous diligently restored buildings in
the Cape Dutch style and its renowned university, it is one of the most
attractive travel destinations at the Cape. Just as rewarding is a visit
to the town's exclusive golf course situated just out of town amid vineyards.
It is a course of the championship class which hosted the South African
Open in 1999.
The course is - compared to those in Cape Town and
on the Cape Peninsula - well protected from the wind. The - relatively
narrow - fairways are lined with trees. Hole 8 (par 4) requires for
instance an absolutely straight stroke in order for the ball not to
land in vines or bushes.
Westlake Golf Club 'The Most Popular
Course in the Cape'
Against the amethyst slopes of the Silvermine mountains
lies one of Cape Town's Premier Courses - Westlake. This easy to walk,
18 hole Par 72 golf course is characterised by the towering trees, which
line many of its fairways.
Westlake has a very interesting, yet user-friendly
design and quite a few doglegs. If you manage to stay out of the trees,
you will achieve a good score.
From the first to the eighteenth hole, every step
affords panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
Established in 1932, Westlake Golf Club welcomes visitors
with its special blend of old world charm and modern amenities in an
atmosphere of conviviality and camaraderie.
Whether you're a tourist enjoying a Cape holiday,
or a local golfer, visit us and see for yourself why Westlake is the
Cape's most popular course.
Erinvale Golf Course
T he Erinvale Golf Course in Somerset West was designed
by Gary Player and is seen as one of the best courses of the Western
Cape province of South Africa. In 1996 it hosted the IGA World Cup of
Golf. The course is situated on the former Erinvale Farm at the foot
of the Helderberg Mountains. The views are spectacular. One can see
beautiful the False Bay and the Hottentots Holland mountain range in
the east. The mountains protect the course from the wind.
The first 9 holes lie in a valley and are despite
the many bunkers and water hazards quite easy to play. Holes 10 to 18,
however, stretch over mountainous terrain and provide considerable challenges.
In parts the fairways ascend steeply. Fortunately there are electric
golf carts for hire.

The Links
Unique to South Africa, The Links golf course was
officially opened in November 2000, by owner Dr Hasso Plattner and course
designer, Mr Gary Player.
Created from a previously flat piece of land, over
700 000 cubic metres of earth was moved in transforming it into a typical
Links style. The course presents undulating windswept terrain, and dune-style
landscape and is the only such course in South Africa.
Every hole has received detailed attention to ensure
that the overall balance in terms of length, position of hazards and
shot values are in harmony. As a result, The Links presents a stern
test in all weather conditions.
Montagu Golf Course
The Fancourt Montagu is considered one of the best conditioned
golf courses in South Africa and has been ranked as the top course in
the country a few times. The Montagu takes in a setting of mountains,
water and wildlife. It is cleverly designed, picturesque and presents
a challenge to golfers of all levels.
These Gary Player designed courses are demanding fair
tests set in beautiful surroundings. The generous kikuyu fairways and
fast bent grass greens give a taste of the type of course, popular on
the US tour.
Pezula Golf Estate
You've just found one of the most exciting, challenging
and visually stunning golf courses in the entire world. This site features
18 spectacular championship holes of golf and 250 hectares of well-planned
residential properties and natural fynbos communities. The Scottish "links-style" course,
designed by Ronald Fream and David Dale of Golfplan in California, features
cool-season grasses and five different tee placements to satisfy, challenge
and reward all golfers.
George Golf Club
This undulating, densely wooded course is an established favourite
with the local market because of it’s scenic setting and memorable
layout. The course feels as if it has been carved out of a forest but
the fairways are a generous width, so only wayward shots end up in the
trees. The perfect setting for a golf holiday

Selborne Hotel. Spa & Golf Estate
Selborne Hotel, Spa and Golf Estate - A stately manor
house surrounded by indigenous coastal forest is the tranquil setting
of this luxury golf estate, hotel and health spa, close to the warm
Indian Ocean and near Durban in South Africa. A private beach club is
a few sandy footsteps to the beach.
Selborne was created in 1985 when Denis Barker was
inspired to turn his dairy stud farm into the first golf estate in South
Africa. His intent was clear – preserve the rich flora and fauna
surrounding the manor house. Today, this sprawling Victorian architectural
statement is the centrepiece of a family run retreat. Woven around the
natural rock and contours and verdant indigenous coastal forest – home
to duiker, mongoose, bushbuck and over 160 bird species – Selborne
offers unequalled natural beauty and tranquillity.
The Lodge at Prince’s Grant
Prince's Grant Golf Club and Country Estate one of South Africa's
premier golf and housing developments is situated on the exclusive North
Coast of Kwa Zulu Natal, 45 minutes north of Durban within easy reach
of the Northern Kwazulu Natal game reserves and battlefield sites
In the heart of this magnificent Estate, a recently
proclaimed "Site of Conservation Significance" is "The
Lodge at Prince's Grant", combining old world charm with modern
luxury living. The lodge has seven individually furnished rooms with
some named after famous golf holes or golf courses; Cosy Corner, Old
Glory, and Tralee to name a but a few. Shakaland with it's many cultural
and traditional experiences is also on our doorstep
Our beautifully decorated "Umdoni" suites further compliment
this magnificent facility. All rooms have generous views of the golf
course or the vast Indian Ocean
Selborne
Some call it the most spectacular 18 holes in southern
Africa. Wild coastal forest frames a superbly manicured course where
the only disturbance may be one of nature’s creatures. Within
an hour or so of flying into Durban, you can be reveling in this masterpiece,
or better equipping yourself at the indoor golf academy or pro shop.
Are you up to the challenge?
Prince’s Grant Golf Course
Princes Grant , with its dunes, humps and hollows, exhibits many
of the characteristics of a typically British links course. Set out
on a magnificent tract of indigenous Natal coastal bush 75km north of
Durban, Princes Grant Golf Course Estate and its magnificent Club House,
The Lodge at Princes Grant are the jewels in the crown of the Dolphin
Coast of KwaZulu-Natal Province in South Africa.
Located at the very entrance to Zululand proper, only
a short drive from Durban and a similar distance from Eshowe, (the old
administrative capital of Zululand) and home to Shakaland, the authentic
Zulu theme park and cultural village. Those visitors requiring accommodation
at The Lodge
at Princes Grant please follow the link
Rates in the "top twenty" of South African golf courses and
certainly one of the country's very best coastal courses, golfers will
be assured of a truly memorable golfing experience
Temper Tantrum , the 1st hole, is a fairly straight-forward
371m par four. The name of the hole serves as a reminder to keep your
cool
The par -four 12th which can be extremely challenging,
is less than 300m from tee to green. This hole is a good example of
a challenging, very short par -four. Bunkers and thick bush demand an
exacting tee shot and approach from the golfer. The superbly contoured
green requires precise judgement with the putting blade
The 15th, the signature hole is an excellent par -five
with superb views 60km all the way down the coast to Umhlanga.
This fairway, which runs parallel to the sea, is overlooked by many
of the private homes that are built on this estate, all with commanding
views of the course and the surrounding magnificent countryside
The 19th, Mulligan's Pub (for those in need of refreshment
after a brisk eighteen holes) is a welcome blend of colonial splendour
and modern watering hole, with commanding views over the course from
the Pub and the verandahs, the dining room or the lounge area. All of
the Lodge rooms have views of either the course or the sweeping coastline.
The Lodge was recently rates 9th best of all clubhouses in South Africa.
Durban Country Club
The Durban Country Club golf course is still today
- despite the serious competition in George and Sun City - the best
golf course in South Africa. No other golf club has hosted the South
African Open and other important tournaments as often as Durban. The
course lies directly at the beach of the Indian Ocean and has been masterly
fashioned into the dunes. It was opened in 1922 and updated 1959. Many
of the holes are positively difficult. The 12th with its steeply raised
green is also called the Prince of Wales hole. The Prince who played
here in 1924, needed 17 strokes, until the ball was eventually in the
hole .

The Cascades
Lush gardens, tropical birds and water features give
The Cascades its sophistication and elegance. The Cascades has a total
of 243 rooms and offers a wide choice of rooms and suites. The Garden
Suite is an idyllic private enclave with its own swimming pool and jacuzzi
in a secluded terrace.
The Cascades Hotel will commence with a multi-million
Rand refurbishment project from the 19 May 2003 and is scheduled for
completion at the end of July 2004. In total, 239 rooms will be refurbished.
The number of rooms that will be out of commission per week may vary
ensuring that guests are not inconvenienced by the revamp.
In the standard and family rooms, the entire bathroom
will be reconstructed and enlarged. A separate large shower cubicle
makes for a more intimate and private experience and the separate bath
is the ideal place to unwind. The luxury rooms at the Cascades Hotel
get superior treatment and each room will have the added distinction
of having their own dressing room with built in dressing table, cupboards
and shoe racks. The bathrooms will have double vanity units and be somewhat
larger than the standard bathrooms.
Gary Player Country Club
The Gary Player Country Club is acknowledged as a
difficult and demanding course. Since 1981 it has been home to the Nedbank
Million Dollar Golf Challenge. The course requires stamina and accuracy
from players. We look forward to yet another memorable tournament in
2004. Please note that the course will close in preparation of this
prestigious event from 3 November to 24 November 2004. Please note,
the Gary Player Course is closed until Mid to End June 2004 for maintenance.
The comparatively flat nature of the golf course is
misleading - water hazards, cunningly sited bunkers and pins hidden
away on kidney shaped greens makes up for the lack of gradient.
Off the back markers the course measures over 7 000
metres which makes it one of the longest in the world. But a variety
of tees make it possible to shorten the course and render playable for
all levels of golfers. A distinguishing feature of the course is its
green's complexes, with strategically placed bunkers, swales and mounds
that protect the super slick clover shaped greens. With pristine perfect
kikuyu fairways and excellent bent grass greens the course is kept in
perfect condition all year round.
A feature hole? Well they're all good at the Gary
Player Country Club, but for risk and reward the stand-out is the 9th.
Play this par 5 from the forward tees and then have a go for the island
green with your second and thrill to the challenge of this superb test
of golf
Lost City Golf Course
Golfers are astounded by the breathtaking beauty of
the par-72 Lost City Golf course. The rich green fairways give a dramatic
contrast to the bushveld backdrop and the barren waste bunkers are a
special feature of this intriguing course.
The desert style design of the golf course has an
exotic allure all of its own and designer, Gary Player has acknowledged
it as one of his favourite courses.
The Lost City Golf Course is flexible: playing off
the forward tee a course length of 5 953 metres, extending to 6 983
metres off the back tee. The course provides spectacular views.
The most hazardous area of the Lost City Golf Course
is the 13th hole. Inhabiting the water hazard are 38 crocodiles, some
of them nearly two metres long. Golfers are discouraged from retrieving
their wayward balls from the croc infested pool. The unusual water hazard
is just one of the features that make the Lost City Golf Course exciting
and interesting to play. No effort was spared to make the course a masterpiece.
Playing the back nine is like going on a golf safari.
It has often been noted that the game is more exciting when played downhill
and this is certainly the case here. In addition to the previously mentioned
13th, holes eleven, fourteen, fifteen and sixteen are all played from
elevated tees offering thrill, excitement and challenge to the golfer.
And some of the most spectacular African views to be had on a golf course.
On the whole a round at Lost City is an experience
which one will not easily forget. But it doesn't end with the golf.

The Portswood
They call Cape Town the Fairest Cape of all - a city
with a vivid historical past and rousing natural splendour. Perhaps
the most magnificent sight of all, is the panorama of Table Mountain
as it cradles the city and dips its toes in the Atlantic Ocean.
The Portswood is at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and offers
stylish accommodation, conference facilities, attention to detail and

The Village at Spier is a Wine Estate, situated in
Stellenbosch.
The Village at Spier hotel is designed to recreate
the intimate and relaxed atmosphere of a small village. The 155 rooms
are situated in Cape styled buildings. The buildings are centred around
six private courtyards and swimming pools, and connected by indigenous
gardens and walkways. Emphasis has been placed on maintaining the ecological
integrity of the area, and where possible, natural materials and resources
have been used.
Clovelly Country Club
C lovelly has always been one of the most popular
clubs in the Western Cape. A robust membership profile ensures that
the club thrives from sporting, competitive, social and financial perspectives.
Apart from the 105 bowling section members and the
78 tennis section members, Clovelly has a very strong golf section consisting
of some 885 men members and 290 lady members.
Clovelly is one of the most frequently visited courses.
Visitors from as far as Thailand and Ireland frequent our fairways,
and tour groups from far flung corners of the world regularly repeat
their visits because of the golfing experienced to be enjoyed in our
pristine valley. Indeed, in some cases visitors from Europe spend up
to six or eight months a year with us.
Between our members and our valued visitors some 60
000 rounds are played on the golf course each year. One can see why
it is necessary to plan and book your rounds in advance. Even though
the amount of rounds is high, the course is consistently in good condition.
Our greens are respected around the world!
Our golf course and facilities are consistently rated
in the top fifty in the country by a leading panel of raters utilized
in the annual South African "Compleat Golfer" survey of golf
clubs. The results of this survey are published annually by the "Compleat
Golfer". Given that there are over 450 golf clubs in South
Africa, this result is something of which we are proud and we continually
seek ways to to improve our standards, and indeed our golf course
Potential course improvements are continuously reviewed,
and if agreed to, are undertaken with minimal disruption to the course
itself. We vigorously apply a policy that the nature and characteristics
of the course must never be changed; course changes must merely serve
to enhance and improve the layout.
Milnerton Golf Club
The Course…
Milnerton Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72 seaside
course situated in a leafy suburb just 10 minutes north of the city
of Cape Town. Surrounded by natural beauty, the course is a pleasure
to the senses and a challenge to even the most experienced golfer -
especially when the prevailing South Easter, affectionately known as
the " Cape Doctor" - makes her house calls in the summer months!
Nestled between the Atlantic ocean and the RietVlei
river, this lush links-type course is relatively flat with few trees.
But with the sea and the lagoon bordering most holes, and the 7 beautiful
water holes waiting to claim the wayward shot, it offers a truly unique
golfing experience! Typical of many links-type courses, you will play
the first 9 holes out, enjoy a light meal at the halfway house, and
then return back to the clubhouse via the second 9.
The Attraction…
On most holes, the sound of the waves breaking on
the shore just metres away will remain long after your game is over.
The spectacular view of Table Mountain from almost every hole is breathtaking,
while the nature lovers will be thrilled at the abundance of water birds
on the bordering river.
The Reward…
Once over, the day's experience will not be complete
without a well-deserved drink or two in the 5-star lounge situated just
a few paces off the beach. There you will relax in comfort and reflect
on your game while soaking in the splendor of the view over the ocean
toward the Mother City - with Table Mountain completing a perfect post-card
setting .
Pearl Valley Golf Estate
Vacant land north facing with stunning lake view.
The 18 hole Jack Nicklaus designed golf course at Pearl Valley is the
first in the Cape and only the second in South Africa. Overseas research
shows that residential properties surrounding Nicklaus Signature courses
attain significantly higher values than those with other types of golf
courses - as much as 25% in many cases. Add this to the peace of the
countryside, clean air, sunshine and healthy outdoor living and Pearl
Valley qualifies as an asset class of its own.
De Zalze Golf Club
A South Africa golfing break would not be complete
without playing golf in the Stellenbosch Winelands. The De Zalze Golf
Course has made the most of a stunning setting with the Blaauwklippen
River which winds its way through the course. De Zalze is managed and
co-ordinated by Spier. The golf course has already hosted many international
